A bingo player in Canada has been left in tears after being asked to leave her local bingo hall due to the hole in her neck that enables her to breath. The Delta Bingo hall in Ontario, Canada, had recently re-opening after closing due to the coronavirus pandemic and 67 year-old Elaine Arbeau was excited to meet up with her friends and enjoy a game of bingo. However, when staff noticed the hole in her neck which enables her to breath, they asked her to cover over it. Elaine explained that she could not cover the hole as that is what helps her breathe, but her refusal to confirm resulted in a member of staff telling her to leave the premises. Elaine was left embarrassed and upset and was ‘beside herself’ crying in the carpark. Elaine’s son, Joe Gilbert said “She was told to leave by management if she didn’t cover up the hole in her neck. She explained that was impossible to do; that is how she breathes” Apparently, the manager saw Elaine crying in the car park and said she could return to the bingo hall, but by that point, Elaine just wanted to go home. In a Facebook post, Joe, Elaine’s son, wrote “My mom has battled many types of cancers over the last 20 years. She is still here. Hell of a survivor. However she like any soldier carries many wounds. One being the hole left in her neck. So because of that battle she can’t talk like us or breathe like us. She breathes through the hole in her neck. “My mom doesn’t go out much unless it’s to play at a casino or bingo hall these days for her enjoyment with her friends. This should never happen to anyone in my mom’s position.”
Bingo CEO to look into case
The CEO of Delta Bingo, Cam Johnston, said after hearing this story, he would be taking a ‘hard look’ at what has happened, but that anyone visiting Delta Bingo venues should be wearing a mask and their priority is the safety of everyone there.
