Isle of Man-based software development company, Microgaming, has made a donation of £7,500 to four different charities as part of its PlayItForward initiative. The initiative, which launched in 2014, focuses on the ‘social pillars of health, sport and education’ with the aim of building upon the existing worth of the Microgaming Health & Care Trust, which funds a number of Manx charities, as well as local health and social care projects.
PlayItForward
As part of PlayItForward, Microgaming chooses to give a gift donation on behalf of its clients at Christmas, rather than provide them with individual gifts. Microgaming’s clients and business contacts are provided with a list of charity organisations around the world, and are asked to select their preferred charity. The four charities that receive the most votes (one from Africa, Australia, Asia, and rest of the world) receive the £7,500 donation. Last year, WWF, Chiva, British Red Cross an Cure Cancer Australia Foundation were the lucky beneficiaries. This year, the four winning charities are:
- Asia’s Change Heroes, an online fundraising platform
- The ROW’s Hospice Isle of Man, which provides palliative care to people facing life limiting illnesses
- Australia’s White Ribbon, a campaign to stop violence against women, and
- Africa’s Medecins Sans Frontieres, which delivers emergency aid to people affected by natural disasters and armed conflict.
Claire Coleman, Head of the PlayItForward division at Microgaming, said: “We all know Christmas is a time for giving, and what better way to recognise this than with our gift of giving initiative. A big thanks to our customers for supporting this for the second year running and making their vote count, and congratulations to 2014’s winning charities.” Head of Income Generation at Hospice Isle of Man, Mary Doyle, thanked Microgaming for their “terrific” levels of support. She explained the £7,500 donation will make a big difference as it equates to around a month’s care in the In-Patient unit.
