Despite online gambling still being largely forbidden in many US states; New Jersey has legalised a number of sites which can only be accessed by residents. Recently, Virgin Casino joined with Tropicana Atlantic City Casino and Resort in New Jersey. Together, they have just launched a brand new 90-ball bingo, which has been developed by Gamesys.
US bingo success for Virgin?
The 90-ball bingo game will only be available to play between 10am and 11pm local time, every day. It offers more than $90,000 worth of bonus cash each month, and a free play option has been included, with players able to bag a number of free tickets to the games. GameSys has provided Virgin Casino with a number of solid bingo games in their UK enterprise, so it is hoped that their US-based bingo games will also be a huge success. It isn’t all good news for US-based bingo players, though. The IRS (Internal Revenue Service) has decided to propose lowering the minimum amount of taxable winnings from $1,200 to just $600. Under the previous scheme, no winnings below $1,200 could be taxed. However, the new rule could see players have to pay tax on all winnings over $600. The new proposal wouldn’t just affect bingo games in the United States. It would also directly affect wins on slot machines and other gambling games. At present, no bingo winnings worth over $1,200 are paid out until the proper IRS tax-forms have been filled out. The drop of this to $600 would be a major blow to a country where online gambling is only just beginning to find its feet again, after more than a decade of harsh laws. So, bingo could rapidly grow with Virgin Casino’s new 90-ball game for New Jersey players; that is if the newly proposed IRS change doesn’t come through to scupper it.
