GambleAware Unveils Donations for 2022/2023 Financial Year

GambleAware, the largest gambling charity organization in the UK, has published a list of donations and pledges received from April 1st, 2022 to December 31st, 2022, as part of its ongoing 2022/2023 financial year. The charity emphasizes transparency in its voluntary funding arrangements with licensed and regulated gambling companies in the UK.

£13.2 Million in Voluntary Donations

GambleAware revealed that it received a total of £13.2 million in voluntary and additional donations in the first three quarters of the financial year. No funds were received through regulatory settlements. The list showed that two of the largest gambling companies in the UK, Entain and bet365, accounted for 90% of the total funds received by GambleAware, with Entain donating £7 million and bet365 contributing £4.9 million. GambleAware Unveils Donations for 2022/2023 Financial Year

Rising Donations from Large Gambling Companies

The charity also noted that donations from the four largest gambling companies in the country have been increasing since 2020, a trend attributed to a commitment made by the Betting and Gaming Council for large operators to contribute 1% of their gross gaming yield before the 2023/2024 financial year. These donations will be used for funding education, prevention, research, and treatment for problem gambling and gambling-related harm.

Deadline for Donations

Licensed gambling operators in the UK have until March 31st, 2023 to make their donations to GambleAware for inclusion in the current financial year. Under current gambling laws, gambling companies are asked to contribute at least 0.1% of their annual gross gaming yield to the charity. Operators generating less than £250,000 in gross gaming yield are required to donate a minimum of £250.

Funds to Support National Gambling Treatment Service

GambleAware stated that the funds received during the financial year will be used to support the National Gambling Treatment Service. The charity’s commitment to transparency in its funding arrangements and the increasing contributions from the UK’s largest gambling companies demonstrate a positive trend toward addressing problem gambling and gambling-related harm.
