There have been whispers in the iGaming industry of the possible sale of popular Irish bookmakers BoyleSports. Although no company has yet been mentioned, Entain had been cited as showing possible interest. According to the Independent.ie, negotiations for the Irish bookie are already underway, but at this time the potential sale of BoyleSports has been kept firmly under wraps.
BoyleSports
BoyleSports launched in 1982 and currently owns 340 retail outlets across England and Ireland. The company’s expansion across many key global markets has proved extremely lucrative for the brand. During 2022/23, the multi-million-pound company is looking to further expand into the Netherlands, Canada, and Africa so the acquisition of BoyleSports is looking like an extremely lucrative deal. Africa has recently seen a growth of interest in gambling, the same in Canada, and for this reason, BoyleSports have explored entry into these regions.
Huge Global Presence
If Entain were to take over BoyleSports it would gain a huge global foothold, challenging other large companies in the market like Flutter Entertainment. However, this is pure speculation at the moment as no announcement has been released from either BoyleSports or Entain on the possible acquisition. Any company acquiring Boyle Sports would be making a wise move as the Irish brand established deep within Ireland and the UK continues growth not only in retail outlets but also online after several key acquisitions, securing a firm foothold in the digital market. Before any deal is finalised, both parties would have to undergo rigorous regulatory review where both operations would be reviewed separately along with what would happen after the two companies merge.
