Sunderland based bingo company Tombola have been doing well in terms of traffic and popularity, and this is shown by a 20% leap in turnover in their latest financial figures, which cover the financial year to the end of April 2016, which turnover rising from £49.7 million to £59.4 million. Despite an increase in costs, pre-tax profits also held steady at a little under £12 million.
New building and new jobs
The company is currently developing a brand new, £6 million headquarters which is 25,000 sq. ft. in size on the banks of the Wear in Sunderland, next to its current headquarters, the Rose Line Building.Newcastle-based company Ryder architecture are working on the three-storey building.Tombola is already one of the largest employers in the city, with over 400 employees, and has stated that it intends to employ 80 more people, which is great news for the job market in Sunderland.

Phil Cronin, the CEO of Tombola, said of the rise in turnover and plans to add staff:”We developed a 2020 strategy to double our turnover and our workforce over five years. We are now two years into that five-year plan and well on course to achieve this ambition.”Adding:”We have started an important recruitment drive and plan to recruit a significant number of experienced developers who can make a contribution to the business immediately as well as helping us to prepare to invest in even more developers, graduates and apprentices when we move into our new HQ in Sunderland…”Nearly all the jobs at our new head office will be tech roles from game and web developers to infrastructure and information security roles. The influx of new software developers will bring the number of developer to around 120 making us one of the biggest employers of software developers in the region.”
