We thought we would coincide this novelty and TV betting article with the upcoming election, undoubtedly a huge number of people will have a bet on who will be our next Prime Minister. ‘Who killed Lucy Beale’ was huge; there was no getting away from it. Eastenders fan or not pretty much every single living organism in the UK had heard of the plot and poor Lucy Beale’s demise. The betting on the murderer broke all records for a TV betting event, everyone wanted a stab (pardon the pun!) at guessing Lucy’s killer. There were more than 1 million tweets during the special anniversary week of Eastenders.
Did the bookies realise how big TV betting would be?
During the lead up to the plot being uncovered we felt that quite a few of the online bookies were missing a trick with lack of marketing the event. Many of our members asked how they could place a bet on the Eastenders killer but couldn’t find where to go to do it. We had a good look around and found that quite often TV betting events are placed under a ‘Specials’ tab, really not at all obvious to anyone. We were hoping that the bookies would give us special banners so we could advertise the event and take our members straight through to placing a bet, unfortunately no such luck at that time.
What about betting on the 2015 Election?
So far the only notable operator that has provided some fairly good communication for the 2015 Election is Ladbrokes. They are offering a full on news page so you can keep up with the odds offered and any changes in the betting. There is also a predicted outcome for the election based on bets that the company has been taking. We were happy to see a promo code available and banners so that we can help our site visitors find where the Election action is taking place.
What else can you bet on?
You can bet on almost any sport imaginable, but in terms of ‘specials’ you can bet on The Voice, X Factor, Britains Got Talent, The Oscars, the gender or name of the Royal baby, next Top Gear presenter and the BAFTA’s. Sadly you may just have to hunt around a little to find out where you can place your novelty bet.
