A recent YouGov poll concluded women’s gambling has doubled in the last five years, it’s estimated more than one million women in the UK are affected by gambling. GambleAware has released its first TV ad campaign directly aimed at women gambling. The ad focuses on a woman totally consumed with gambling while the dog craves attention, and the family fails to interact with the mother while she plays bingo and games on her phone.

The ads are designed to make women aware of the dangers and harms of gambling and how they can become easily consumed without thinking about their daily lives. The campaign focuses on three key areas: Totally losing track of time while gambling Spending money without even thinking Hiding gambling from other family members New studies have shown women tend to gamble more between the months of December and March with traffic rising as high as 29%. Statistics reveal women are less likely to seek advice and help with a gambling problem as gambling issues are portrayed as more male-orientated. However, GambleAware and Gamstop have seen cases of women presenting with gambling-related problems double over the last five years. The new GambleAware campaign is specifically designed to encourage women who may be in a similar situation to the family in the ad to come forward and seek help if they feel their gambling is getting out of control. The ad will air on TV, radio, and social media from now until March 2022. Chief Exec at GambleAware Zoe Osmond said, “We are launching this new gambling harms prevention campaign at a time when there may be up to a million women at risk of gambling harm. Our research shows women may not be aware they are starting to experience harm from gambling or, maybe worried about reaching out for support due to stigma or shame.
