Ninja Warrior is a TV show in which contestants regularly wow the audience, but normally it’s for their displays of strength and athleticism. While Ty Jones, a competitor from Sale, certainly showed the crowd those things, it was the startling resemblance that the 23-year-old has to pop superstar Ed Sheeran that really got people talking.
Parkour
Jones started practicing parkour at 16, and practicing the sport put him in good stead for Ninja Warrior. Parkour also helped Jones lose four stone in weight, although it has not been confirmed if parkour has any effect on making one look more like famous pop stars.
Nervous
Speaking of his experience on the show, Jones said: “On the day of filming I was so nervous, I didn’t know what to expect. My dad, Stuart, and girlfriend Chrissie, were in the crowd, which helped mentally knowing they were there supporting me. “When I first saw the course I realised all the training I had done was not going to help with this particular layout. “Having the audience there definitely pushed me to go further. Looking back at it now I did find parts of it fairly easy.” Mr Jones, who has met Ed Sheeran in the past, said that his resemblance to the Shape of You singer has been a help to him, explaining: “Being ginger I got bullied quite a lot so I didn’t communicate very well. “I just kept to myself, but when Ed Sheeran came out it really helped lift me up. People would come over and think I was Ed and ask for pictures. That then forced me to talk more to people and ultimately I came out of my shell so I’m really thank full for that.” The bingo caller, who also works as a park ranger, certainly got the attention of the Ninja Warrior crowd with his skills and his famous features!
